Primary School Course

Practical learning of road safety concepts

2.5 Hours, Morning or Afternoon

This program offers the opportunity for practical learning of essential road safety concepts and skills on Roadcraft’s designated bicycle road circuit. An experienced Roadcraft Educator will host this programme, which is provided as a 2.5 hour morning or afternoon session to a maximum of thirty students at a time.

Course Topics

Bicycle Safety:
Wearing a correctly fitted helmet (demonstration), basic parts of a bicycle, riding with an adult, riding on bicycle paths

Passenger Safety:
Entering and exiting the car on the safe (kerb) side, buckling up (wearing a seatbelt correctly, leave seatbelt on until the car has stopped), being a safe passenger (sitting still, playing quiet games, not distracting the driver, not touching door handles, not touching keys), getting on and off buses safely (wait until the bus’s wheels have stopped before getting on the bus, wait until the bus has left if you need to cross the road)

Pedestrian Safety:
Selecting safer places to cross the road, using safe procedures to cross the road. STOP, LOOK, LISTEN, THINK, discussing road scenarios and hazards, use of stimulus pictures to enhance discussions.
